Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Upgrades to items allow players to improve their weapons and equipment with new affixes, increasing its base stats or providing additional benefits. To upgrade item s, players must have the item in their inventory and have access to the kiln.
Typically objects that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base while items with strong bases like Eth titans don't change significantly in their stats after being upgraded.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, weapons and gathering tools, providing an added bonus or effect when the equipment is used. They can be bought from vendors, found in loot, dropped by enemies, or obtained as rewards from missions or chests. Some upgrades have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be at a certain level before they are upgraded.
To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, players will need to select it and then click on the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview of the expected upgrade statistics and the components or materials required for the upgrade.
There are three kinds that are universal upgrades (which include gems) prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components.
